Undergraduate Student Information

The Fordham Cognition, Development, and Education (CoDE) Lab directed by Dr. Jing Tian welcomes motivated and enthusiastic undergraduate researchers. At the CoDE Lab, we focus on addressing a fundamental question in developmental psychology - how children learn. We integrate sociocultural and cognitive perspectives to address this question in a particularly important domain: mathematics.

 

As an undergraduate researcher, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with our team of experienced scientists and contribute to cutting-edge research projects in mathematical development. This position offers valuable hands-on experience, mentorship, and the chance to make a real impact in the world of scientific discovery.

Position Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the transcription and coding of existing data.

  • Collaborate with lab members on the design and development of new studies. 

  • Contribute to the data collection efforts for new studies.

  • Attend lab meetings and contribute to discussions.

  • Keep accurate records of research activities.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in developmental or educational psychology.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced research environment.

  • Strong records in Statistics (PSYC 2000) and Research Methods (PSYC 2010). (preferred but not required)

  • Availability of 3+ hour segments during business hours on weekdays (preferred but not required)

  • Prior experience working with children (preferred but not required).

Expectations

To ensure students’ experience in our lab is both meaningful and beneficial, we have established a few requirements. We request a minimum weekly commitment of 9 hours throughout the academic semester and ask that students commit to at least two consecutive semesters.

 

For those considering a senior honors thesis within our lab, we recommend initiating work in our lab no later than their junior year.
