The Fordham Cognition, Development, and Education (CoDE) Lab directed by Dr. Jing Tian welcomes motivated and enthusiastic undergraduate researchers. At the CoDE Lab, we focus on addressing a fundamental question in developmental psychology - how children learn. We integrate sociocultural and cognitive perspectives to address this question in a particularly important domain: mathematics.
As an undergraduate researcher, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with our team of experienced scientists and contribute to cutting-edge research projects in mathematical development. This position offers valuable hands-on experience, mentorship, and the chance to make a real impact in the world of scientific discovery.
Position Description
Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the transcription and coding of existing data.

Collaborate with lab members on the design and development of new studies.

Contribute to the data collection efforts for new studies.

Attend lab meetings and contribute to discussions.

Keep accurate records of research activities.
Qualifications:
-
Strong interest in developmental or educational psychology.
-
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
-
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
-
Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced research environment.

Strong records in Statistics (PSYC 2000) and Research Methods (PSYC 2010). (preferred but not required)

Availability of 3+ hour segments during business hours on weekdays (preferred but not required)

Prior experience working with children (preferred but not required).
Expectations
To ensure students’ experience in our lab is both meaningful and beneficial, we have established a few requirements. We request a minimum weekly commitment of 9 hours throughout the academic semester and ask that students commit to at least two consecutive semesters.
For those considering a senior honors thesis within our lab, we recommend initiating work in our lab no later than their junior year.
