Exploring Math Curiosity in Elementary Students

The purpose of the study is to explore how math curiosity motivates elementary school students’ math learning.

If you choose to participate, parents will be asked to complete a brief online survey. Upon completion, parents will be directed to schedule a virtual session with a researcher. The session will take place over Zoom and should take about 20-40 minutes. During this session, your child will solve several age-appropriate math problems and answer questions about their curiosity in math. Children will receive a study completion certificate and a $10 gift card upon completion. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 3rd to 5th graders

  • Fluent in English

  • No language or learning disabilities

Link Between Math Problem Solving and Cognitive Abilities

The purpose of the study is to how strategy use in solving math problems relates to spatial skills and cognitive abilities.

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete a brief online survey (about 5 min). Upon completion, you will be directed to schedule a 60-min in-person session with a researcher. The in-person session will take place on Fordham’s Rose Hill campus. During this session, you will complete several computerized or standardized cognitive tasks. Participants will be compensated with either 2 SONA credits or a $25 gift card.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 18 to 25 years old

  • Current undergraduate college students

  • Completed middle and high school in the U.S.

  • No language or learning disabilities

Numbers in Measurement

The purpose of the study is to explore the benefits of decimals, fractions, and percentages for
measurements

 

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete a brief online survey (the Part 1 Qualtrics
survey, about 5 min). Upon completing Part 1, you will be automatically redirected to the Part 2 Calendly
sign-up page to schedule your in-person session (about 50 minutes). The in-person session will take place
on Fordham’s Rose Hill campus.


After completing both parts of the study, participants will receive 3 SONA credits or a $25 electronic gift
card
as compensation.
